My first full beat, if you want to call it that haha...<.<
Recording still sucks, I don't get how I can make the quality better.

That put aside, can someone tell me what I should work on from here? Tell me if it's good and I'll put some more stuff on here :D
Thanks.

nice work.....
alot better than some of my beats anyways...
The only thing I could say is to loosen up the drums a lil bit, they seem a little quantized...

other than that dope stuff.

:)

Thanks for the critique, guys. I guess I'll try not to quantize as much in the future. Anyone know any tips for recording?

you can change quantizing (or turn it off) during recording depending on what (hihat, snare, kick)you are recording in that moment, for example.
cheers!

Thanks, that compliment made my day(even though it's night where I live, ha) :D
I still got a lot to learn, though. It's real demotivating when I listen to Madlib or Doom(just picked up Born Like This, I love it).

Here's another one I made a bit earlier just in case anyone likes my beats. Listen to the whole track, though, it has two parts. Had a hard time recording though, so don't expect the best quality :?

downloaded the first..

for recording:

- keep the SP's volume below about 2/3 - 3/4 of maximum.. it gets noisy if u crank it up heaps

- make sure you dont clip the recording in your recording software...

other than that, if you want better recording quality, you'll need to invest in a pro soundcard/audio interface.

what's clip recording?
Is it worth it to invest in a cassette recorder? Can anyone recommend a cheap one?

i think he means clipping the peak, or peaking. when the wave reaches the top and gets flat looking and noisy

m-audio fast track pro...but at the same price you can find other soundcard with the same performance in sound.

when you record, you should see like a waveform of the sound...
with the waveform, you can tell the volume by the height.

if the peaks are going right to the top of the scale, any information above wlil be 'clipped' off.. leading to distortion. so keep the volume down so that the highest peaks of the wave are *just* below the top.
