Hi all,
Just released this downtempo/ illbient tape recorded using mostly DR-770 programming a 303 direct to 4-track tape. Sounds hypnotic, hazy and dreamlike. Source samples are mostly from my friends' shoegaze/experimental demo tapes from Chicago in the 1990s. To me, it sounds like Spectre or old DJ Shadow.

Soundcloud: https://on.soundcloud.com/VCuLG

If you can help out, I'd appreciate some constructive feedback on two areas:

1) Many modern electronic albums are recorded using digital sources, and this was recorded on tape using mostly tape source material. How does the album "stand up" compared to contemporary electronic/downtempo stuff?

2) Is the music engaging enough without central vocals throughout?

Any helpful, constructive feedback would be welcome. Thanks.

Its a dope trip! Sound was dusty, beats hypnotic. Nice warm compression. Its tough to say whether recording to tape or digital effects is going to be better. Creativity spawns from the minimalism and extra work required to do the old school style, but sometimes the ease of use does the same thing lol The beats are nuanced enough and the samples had plenty of substance I don't think adding more vocals would really add to the beats or the ambience. Good tape reminds me of the Anticon days of Alias, Jel, Odd Nosdam throw in some Buck 65 - Overboard vibes in too

Thanks for the feedback, Green Dutch.

I agree 100% all the way that limitations can make us more resourceful with what we have. That was my goal here - to make creative opportunities out of limitations. I sometimes wonder if that that makes my tracks too "primitive" compared to others, but hopefully that just gives it a unique vibe. Thanks and I'm glad you liked it.

Just checked out ILLADELPH 202LIFE on Bandcamp and loving it. Also checking out Reachin'. How do you incorporate your PO-33? A friend told me about them and I'm thinking of getting one but need a little info about how to incorporate it.

Thanks again for the feedback, I appreciate it.
