This is my first beat on the SP-404sx, as well as my first post so I hope I posted this in the right place. Anyways, I used my PC's card reader and dragged the finished beat into FL and since I used the resample method, it came out kind of sloppy with some pauses. Does anybody know how I might be able to edit those out and clean up the beats I make?
Thanks for your time.

nice work .. Warm.. Mellow

ermm.. only thing I can suggest is to trim samples so they play as soon as you strike the pad .. you'll know when theyre trimmed tight if you can repeatedly press the sample and it bounces like a skipped CD .. as beloe

1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1

when its not trimmed tight it will be like the following..

..1...1..1....1..1...1....1 < hope the diagram helped

Great 1st beat on the SP! Frou Frou and who else is that? As for timing issues, as previously mentioned make sure samples are trimmed very well. This is crucial and time consuming and sometimes you have to learn the "feel' of playing the sample on the pad to be able to play it right. You def want it to start RIGHT when you hit the pad but that really does not sound like the problem in your case since there are only a few spots where glitches happened.

When using the resample method I always save each pass- you always end up having to do re-takes because of mistakes. This is crucial to know about resample method and one of the things I like about it. There is an element of actual performance involved and no undo or fixing it in the box, you just have to do another take.

As far as fixing it in a DAW here are my thoughts:

2 examples from your piece-

0:31 is an early beat where you need to add material to correct the timing. This can be a real PIA but can be done. You find a spot somewhere else where same sounds and beats are happening- copy it- paste it over or on another track- and then keep moving it and adjusting the start/stop points until it sounds right. You will also need to split the original track and fit the new edit into it to lengthen the track.

0:57 can be a far easier fix when you have gaps- you may simply be able to keep trimming the gap out until it sounds right or split the track and overlap the 2 sides creating a crossfade until it sounds right.

Personally, my suggestion is when using the resample method do multiple passes and save every one in sequence. That way as soon as you make a mistake you can delete that last take and use the previous take to resample from and try again. I usually use bank E or J and turn loop and/or gate off on the current take in case I walk away from it for awhile and forget if last take was a keeper or not.

Anyway- you got experience or are a natural- you picked 2 samples in same key that work great together and is a cool track so kudos man and welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the help man!
I did try that with the newer beats I've been making and it has worked but I deleted all of the samples that I used for this beat (didn't realize I would need them again)
But would there be a way to chop up the file via software so it would be quick and easier visually? Thanks again :D

and Om_Audio, thanks so much for your help and feedback do you have any recommendations on what software I might be able to do that with?
Also, I have some experience with making music on maschine but not so much with sample-based music so this is really my first track like this.. Beginner's luck I guess :D
