Does anyone know that ASCAP pays royalties for page views off different sites and downloads of records?
If they do, where is that displayed publicly

Don't know for sure, but ASCAP & other performance rights organisations tend to protect member's rights in terms of copyright & broadcasting- not publishing (which would apply to downloads).

But keeping track of downloads? Man that could get hard... And embarassing for overhyped acts. A good bet might be to keep up to date on industry & indie charts. Most good digital retailers (ie- Bleep, Boomkat, Beatport etc) keep charts on top selling downloads but don't follow niche/low selling downloads or share their data to show broader trends.

'Spose the best way forward is hack EVERYONE'S Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Myspace, Soundclick & Reverbnation pages. When you do, let me know how many less plays I get than everyone else, OK?

Lulz me too!

In actuality ASCAP is for more for commercial outlets than indie outlets. All it does, essentially, is provide legal backing for your tunes. It's up to you to prosecute anything you feel is unlawful. ASCAP will back you on those terms.

For instance:

You make a beat called BUTTER.

Some dude rips your BUTTER beat and calls it SEEDS and sells it. You can sue him for all his proceeds providing your ASCAP copyright over BUTTER.

Beyond that, it's pretty useless. ASCAP is intended for mainstream commercial use. Otherwise, use creative commons. Cheaper, does same thing.
