Hello everyone!

I am relatively new to the whole sampling and production game however i do feel i know my way around my Sp 404 sx. here is the thing, basically when i record let's say something off of vinyl or a synth patch off of reason i ( only sometimes this happens) get bits and pieces of what i recorded/ it comes out kinda glitchy.. is there something i am doing wrong like maybe when i set it to mono and still have both R & L plugged in?! or is it something that kinda just happens?! Anyways thanks a lot for you advice!

cheers!!

Sean

usually distortion happens because the volume coming in (or the recording level on the SP) is too high. look for that red light to not be flickering!

also, remember that some MFX boost the signal and therefore overdrive it too.

i'd start there. then i'd check to see if you have a faulty cable.

i notice that too and i cant get rid of it. I have tried a ton of different things and just came to the conclusion that the 404 sx records with distortion. Cause i cant figure it out. I have adjusted volumes and compared and everything. I get this weird crunch whinning bleep when i play the sample. Only on my drum hits tho since any instrument sample probably hides this distortion. Its weird but ive come to accept it, like hitting the lo-fi button after sampling and adding the bit of crunch.

oh, that's weird. the OG doesn't do that. spring - these are things yr sampling, or stuff yr dragging over from yr computer? if its the latter, maybe there's something going on w/ sample rate differences (like, 16 versus 24 bit, 44.1 versus 48)?
