Hi - I've just started figuring out the SP-404. I'm sampling a base line using my keyboard and although I press REC to stop recording at just the right beat (end of the 4th beat), when I playback the sample, it cuts out the silence at the end of the measure and starts right back at the beginning, unbalancing my tempo. Any idea how I can get it to record everything until I press record, including the small amount of silence at the end of the recorded measure?
Thanks!

man just sample it a little past where you want it to cut off, then adjust the end point to where you want it,put it on gate or one shot and play it over your beat..don't loop it,and it might be best to not have it on gate, cause the 404 tends to cut gated samples short at the end of a sequence before it starts over on the first bar..or did i misunderstand the question?

Sounds like your sample might be set to "loop". You could trigger your bass sample manually at the start of each bar or record silence at the tail end on the bass sample, so its loop point matches the timing of the full bar.

Thanks for your answers guys (I wasn't notified I had received an answer to this post, so here I am, 6 months later). I haven't played with the sp404 a lot recently and just got back to it. I tried what you mentioned, i.e. recording a bit longer, a little past the 1st beat of the next measure, and that did seem to work. I couldn't find how to add silence at the end of the existing sample though.
I don't know if it's just me, but I find this tool a little hard to use - no overdubbing, so you can't actually hear what you recorded before while you record a new sample. So I record everything in Cubase at the same time to allow playback, but I find this tiresome. I don't think I'm a big sp404 fan. Up to now... I want to use it to play my songs live, by recording samples from my synth on different pads. It's hard to get the different samples all in sync and sounding good all together. Maybe I'm missing some tricks to really appreciate the tool...?
