J/K But I did just make a quick beat out of Miles Davis Bitches Brew. Let me know if it plays loud enough 'cause a lot of my beats are too low. I did a personal battle and pulled all the sounds out of the original song so everything is tuned and in key even though it was sampled. Enjoy and kick the feedback.

I have that LP too, it's still one of my favs!
That beat is great, I love the darkness of it.
From which song did you pull the samples?

Regarding the loudness:
That's louder then all the albums in my iTunes.

Nice, good look. I've been tryin' new ways of mixing my beats after they leave the 303. Also I took these samples from the song Bitches Brew on the Bitches Brew studio session album.

Thanks for the article now I feel more secure with my low sound level beats, but I'm also glad I'm learning how to make radio standard sound levels that sound good on low quality playback equipment so I can mix for that medium too. My loudness test is usually if I can hear it nicely on my little laptop speakers.

Very well-put-together beat mayne! 8)

As for the loudness war - I fell into that trap myself! It sucks when you end up with tracks that are loud as hell but with zero dynamics

The trick is to use a limiter, but not in an extreme way (as has been the 'fashion'). Most mastering 'presets' have the threshold set at about 4 db; try something between 1.5 - 2.5 db instead. Gentle pushing and squashing rather than all-out loudness-war-madness..

My default db level is set at 6db. To make things louder I've been putting it through multiband compression>eq>limiter to get a more radio ready level. But I'm just experimenting with all types of mixing and mastering to keep sound up but not sacrifice sound depth. Thanks for all the info everyone I really appreciate it.
