I was going through my records and realized that I had all the samples from "Check the Rhime". Hooked this beat up and put it on Soundcloud. enjoy!

ha,yes..dope. One of my favorite tribe joints, besides scenerio rmx and bonnita applebaum.Nicely done-you really know what you're doing getting the swing like this on the 404 too...oh wait-lol,you got the sx,that shits got swing. Just out of curiosity-I notice you got the hats panned hard right-I'm not critiquing good or bad,I'm just curious as to your reasoning behind it. Probably a question better suited for prod. techniques, maybe some others can chime in on that too. But yea,ill stuff-I can really tell you do this for the love above all else with the re flips and shit, thats what it's all about....

a.D., I didn't even think about that lol, I just sampled the hat straight off of the Minnie Riperton record in stereo. My main goal was to get all the pieces from that record to sound consistent... still with that swing though. Thanks for checking it out!

nice one. Check the rhime is one of my favorite tracks from ATCQ as well.

I was definitely nodding my head. I like that drum beat. 8)

Word,okay-- actually i I read recently that it can sometimes be a useful technique to pan hats to the right-'cause that's the side they're normally on on a live drum kit,and that you'd here it from that side in a live performance. And obviously some old breaks, depending on how the drums were mic'd, i guess. Interesting stuff.I also read in a recent wax poetics article a famous funk musician from the 60's 70's saying his opinion of the best way to really get "that true funk" in a recording is to do every single peice in mono. Idk, just been studying a lot lately, trying to refine and perfect my sound as much as possible. Anyway-again,dope shit!

I juuust got a ... erm... completely legit copy of Ableton- so I'm gonna experiment with the mixing and mastering process. Always cool to hear how they cut shit back in the two-track tape days.
