on the new studio. Still a lot of work to do there.
Yamaha RM1X - Sequencer, Drums, bassline, lead, synth pad
Roland MS-1 - Field recorded noises
Yamaha DX27 - Noise
No computers were used.

Live from the output of the mixer into the crappy laptop running Audacity

ehi the rmx1 is not that bad at last...
normally i listened awful examples with this machine, but those sounds are cool...it reminds me the good times when autechre, b12 and black dog were ruling the electronic scenes...

OTs
ps
i got the yamaha mg102, is it the same as yours?
ps2
the yamaha an200 differs very much in sounds from the rmx1? (i got this little beast)

Thank you for your reply mate,

The Yamaha RM1X is a very underrated machine. It is the best hardware sequencer I ever used, and It's sounds once tweaked are very good. Most people don't bother to learn the machine. It took me almost 6 months be be half-ninja with with :)

Your mixer is the same I have. I really like that mixer, but I wish it had mute buttons for the channels.

The AN200 is a beast! Keep it. It has FM and AWM2. It sounds like the AN1X. You can get some real punchy analog bass from it. Great machine!

ok
i knew it had a very nice sequencer, but unfortunately the most examples i heard were not good...if you have some other nice examples (tracks, links etc) go ahead!

!

word!
...but personally for the price i paied it (70€) i cannot really complain...sure, mute/unmute is very useful indeed...but the aux send/return is a cool feature however...

the an200 is very cool, i use it also to controll via midi some other machines: the midi reverse is very trippy...some sounds are really nice and the the morphing too (as on the electribes)...the only really thing i can complain is the fact that it as just1 bar (!!!!) on the sequencer, so you have to make songs or use morphing to "solve" this...
anyway does the rmx1 got some sounds similar to the an200/an1x?

I think they might sound more or less the same because the both have the same AWM2 sound generator chip.
But I have to get my hands on a AN200 to check it out.

My next machine will be the SP-404. I will catch one for 120EUR.
I also have a deal for a SP-202 for 60EUR.
Do you think it's worth get both, or should I get the 303 and get aother piece of equipment?

I also need to find a way to record my songs (DAT, MD's, etc...) because I don't want to use the computer for anything music related.

Cheers

120€ for the 404 is a really good price!
the same for the 202: no more than 60€ however...
i had the 3: sp303 (wich still i have) and the other 2. the main difference betwen the 303 and the 404 is that this last got a sort of "live sequencer", the 303 don't (weel, it has a sequencer but A>it is "manually" sequencer, no synch between sequences, it's up to your precision B>you can always "solve" this doing a song in 1 sequence...a little boring indeed) saying this, if you just will sequence them with the rmx1, all the 3 are ok (in reality the sp202 got the best filters, but is the "worst" in editing, copyng, chops etc and if it comes without the very expensive smartmedia, you have just 30sec of sampling)...
the 404 sounds a bit more "modern" and uses (also) battery and compact flash cards
the 303 sounds more warmy, uses smartmedia (still easy to find)
-sp404 amd sp303 got a variety of nice fx-
the 202 sounds raw, uses also battery and a particular and expensive (and hard to find) type of smartmedia...it has just 4 (or 5) fx...
i think that if you got yet the ms-1, you can exclude the sp202, but it's just my opinion...60€ is cheap (but you can also consider to keep the money to invest in other things)

ps
are you living in europe?
