Hey fam, dunno what they were thinking but I've had to folks ask about some of my old stuff recently. So here's a 26 song album made of stuff I recorded between 2009 & 2011. This is as much as for them as it is for you: https://app.box.com/s/cqh6toegelwke6jb5k9t

It's a heavyweight download, so here's 5 tunes to get some flavour before commiting your hard earned downloads.
The Cheat's Retreat.mp3

I'll Show You My Favourite Finger.mp3

Tourists With Resampling.mp3

Soldiers (When You're Good).mp3

Precedents And Limits.mp3

Cheers!

Ha! Cheers mate! Here's a some words about the tracks, production notes would be too dry to cover here (if I could even remember that for most of these). OK:

- The Cheat's Retreat was for a battle beat but I broke the battle's rules making it, hence the song's name.

- Questioned took 20 minutes to microwave, it came out perfect, usually something like that will take me a whole day. Found 3 songs in the same scale & they seemed to write the song on their own.

- Due Date was made as a challenge by a mate to see how far he could push copyright infringments in his university assignments. He'd always try & breach copyright in some way irrelevent to the work he'd make (so if he got called out it wouldn't ruin him & he could claim it as another side to his art). That track was used by him as a backing piece for him explaning a word art video he made (the point being that even the most minimalist approach to word art still requires something to set the scene). The theme was Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, so I made a song to fit the movie's soundtrack.

- Only songs without samples or copyright infringement are Bacon Day & Jetpacks (drums can from generic packs, all synths were waves played in the ESX). Bacon day was a day when everything I ate contained bacon, it was a good day.

- Soldiers (when you're good) is a collab with a girl who moved away just after we started recording together. That was an alternate version of a song she wrote over a beat I made in '08. It's also the only song of mine where you'll hear me sing if you listen close (I went through an XX phase back in '09).

- Answers was made for an MC I think I've met around a few times around but in those meet ups we've never discussed music. Pretty sure he has no idea I'm that dude and that dude. Feels weird to be known by someone as two unrelated people... After chatting via email (where he knows me as a producer) I sent him that when he said he was keen to try rapping on a non-standard hip hop beat. Called his bluff on that, he bailed on his word immediately...

- All In One is purely non-quantized. Everything's played in live & timed to the bass guitar's delay. Took me about 3 days to get all the takes right & make sure the loops are OK. Recorded heaps of reference takes (for time keeping) that were omitted from the finished track.

- Solanum samples about 9 other songs, without counting my own bass & melodica parts. That was a hard song to make. It's also a track that a few metalhead mates really responded to (because a lot of it samples stoner metal & post-rock bands, not that you'd pick the metal if you didn't already know the songs I used). Oddly enough the same mates didn't respond to Compass even though the metal samples are plain (used 3 local bands, plus some Bad Brains to make that one- bonus points if anyone can spot the Bad Brains part). Compass was my submission to an old SP fam compilation too.

^All that has me wondering about the stories behind a lot of the music posted here. We don't often talk about the background of what we make & why we made it. Just the 'here it is'.
