i was wondering if anyone has a really good usb or fire wire audio interface to reccomend, i'm saving up and i wanna record some GOOD (maybe not amazing) quality audio with my shure sm58. my goal really is to get loud recordings, with atleast pretty good quality.

does anyone have an example track they used to import audio with the audio device? i'd like to hear it before i buy it.........

entry level soundcard:

m-audio fast track pro

edirol (forget the model sorry)

medium level:

MOTU 2408 Mk3

Motu 828 mkll usb 2

MOTU 828 Mk2

Motu 828 (mkl)

MOTU UltraLite Mk3 Hybrid

rme fireface 800

rme fireface 400

Focusrite Saffire PRO 24

Focusrite Saffire PRO 40

tc electronics studiokonnekt 48,

m-audio ProFire 610

m-audio ProFire 2626

the main diference between the entry level and the medium level is mostly on the preamps, i have a fast track pro and you have to use them carefully to not make "noise"; other than that (and the much/less ins and outs) the converters are not that "very different"...the real difference in quality is between the entry level, the medium level with the high level. but the difference in money is hard...

I would recommend and mbox 2 pro from personal experience or a motu ultralite. I haven't used an apogee duet, but thats what I would get if I was to buy a new interface today.

If you dont need many I/Os I'd recommend the presonus firebox (if you have firewire that is)

for everyday tasks i still use the good old laptop soundcard because the mbox adio driver only alows one music program to run at once.
