I want to get some practice in with mixing other peoples music to improve my ears and mixing skills as well be a benefit to those who hate fucking with EQ and that nonsense

so if you want ill give em my best shot to make em sound bangin

ideally you would send multiple tracks, I can clean up stereo files, I have done it before, but theres not too much you can do

so let me know whats up

that's a great offer man, might take you up on it. just in the process of finalising a beat, will zip up the stems and send a link through PM

cheers

cool man!

just one response?

I'll even have a go at mastering your song that you recorded in one take

an extra set of ears is INVALUABLE, even if its an amateur like me

Yo I dont have any complete tunes but I'm interested to see how much of my issues are just a matter of better mixing, I'll see if I can get something for you.

@ cartesia

mixing things right can make a HUGE difference, and I'm interested to hear what you have been doing

@trenchant
only send them dry if you want them dry

make sure if you have multiple tracks that theres silence up until the beginning if you punched in late, so everything lines up right ya get me? if you just give me the punch in point I'll have to recreate the entire song

 Trenchant that beat is nuts! can you say what gear you used and how many tracks?

HD, this idea or yours is awesome  i agree, a second set of ears can definately improve your own. that mix is great man! you made it sound brighter while everything has presence. i can't trust myself eqing, my shit comes out sounding boxy everytime. don't have my computer right now but i'd like to burn wavs out my mpc in layers if you'd want to try mixing it (probably just a loop). what software(?) did you use by the way?

thanks yea it was a great track i just had to emphasize it!

it was ableton live, but its just knowledge of gain structure and how to use EQ and Compression without sounding like you are using either

i would be glad to mix them

just make sure you record the silence as part of the tracks

also its not my idea haha its just the way it should be but as producers we tend to try to do everything on our own

thanks, i appreciate it. i used the microkorg for all the synth sounds on it, and did the hihats and a little clap in the 404. then i tracked it all into reaper and added some extra drums, and it ended up at 10 tracks.

guys

i sent Hurling Dervish the stems for a track i wrote last year, but was never happy with how the sounds sat with each other. here's the original: http://soundcloud.com/drewzle/bula-in-a-minor

and here's HD's mixdown:
http://www.box.net/shared/pheaxe1uqj

biggest and most noticable difference is the bass, which sounded distorted in my original mix. HD has it sitting nice and low, not interfering with the rest of the tune. the hi-hats sound crisper, and the synth lines have their own space to move (particuarly important 'cos they double up at times).

the vocal samples i grabbed from a Youtube clip, and were noisy as shit. that could sort of be hidden in my original mix, but the clairty of HD's mix really highlights how dirty/noisy those vocal samps are...that's a lesson learnt for me

cheers Hurling, i appreciate the mix!

wicked! i've bookmarked that page now. i'm a member at that forum but haven't posted much.

you writing dubstep HD? i tend to write all my dubsteppy stuff on hardware for live performance, only EQing through my mixer.

but i'm sure the need for fat subs and sharp wobbles makes dubstep a good genre for learning to mix

wooow this is great stuff HD, thanks for sharing. I've got a question tho... they say to keep db levels modest when mixing... what about sampling? let's say, if when you sample, the sample peaks at almost 0... if you then turn it down in the mix does it still kill valuable headroom, or is it ok cuz it's turned down now? i noticed that getting the 'madlib compression effect' (record your music in quiet, rec drums in loud-----add compression) on my 404 does not work as well when the music part is recorded loud to begin with and then turned down afterward... does not sound as punchy....?
