Well... I got this synth for a while now and I only use it as a midicontroller, cause I just don't understand the process of building own sounds.
I don't wanny use the presets cause ...well... everybody is using them and thats kinda boring to my ears. Don't think I didn't try things out... I also readed the manual over and over (...yeah in the bathroom also niq)... but that shit is too scientific.

So if anybody can turn a preset into sth. fresh lemme know how...
Any tip would be greatly appreciated; I'm kinda lost on this.

Thanx fam.

Step 1: Hold Shift+3. This will initialize your patch.
Step 2: Change around your waveforms, and use the mixer to bring up osc2 and mess with osc2's waveform
Step 3: save your sound and then change to another sound and go back to your sound. This resets the macro knobs to their original settings. Cutoff ,resonance, attack and release. Mess with these.
Step 4: Read the manual and wiki any terms you don't know and really research subtractive synthesis.

aight, cool. 8) i always started with 'patch'... would you be down for posting a preset and the sound you made out of it? that would be awesome... maybe i'm expecting too much of the mk's tweak-abilities?!

*diggin the bandcamp stuff btw.

Thanks for listening. I don't usually tweak presets that much, I usually always start from scratch. Maybe if you could explain what kind of sound you want or what kind of results you want I could help you get there. My thing is, I REALLY like synthesis. I've studied it and know what every parameter does. It has taken me about 7 years of experimenting and an education in audio engineering to get to where my synth knowledge is......and I'm STILL learning. What I'm saying is as long as you stick with it and read up, soon you won't want to use a preset and will build your own sounds. That being said, ask any question you want and I'll do my best to help you get the sound you want.

once you know what each wave form sounds like individually

learn the envelopes

you already know what filters do, but learn how to use them to control the timbre to make them more instrument like

then itll be like tuning a guitar to you when you want to make a sound

i already know how a saw square (?) tri waveforms sound like... but it's still random knob screwing... lets say im a little step further on this *bleeding ears* but would be cool if you could tweak an example. its kinda hard to describe what kinda sound im aiming for. jus gimme a short walk through and i would be thankful. what are the LFO's doing btw. ?

i know i might sound like these mpc-dudes askin for the dope button...

lol a short walk through of what? everything? haha
thats a bit of a hike

ill start with LFO's

LFO's are like automated tweakers, you set a destination out of anything you want (not sure whats possible on the MK, some synths have limited choices)
most often
Filter cutoff or pitch

when you do that the LFO has a waveform of its own. lets say a sin wave.

the sin wave is a circle but horizontal, when you continue in time it loops back to where it starts
so you have something like:

filter at the lowest position and filter at the highest position

the LFO circulates between those two positions at a speed you tell it to

also you can set it so it doesnt sweep all of the filter or pitch, just a range you want

i can tell you more but i need to know specifics haha

Hey Bridge, thanks for the initializing tip. I too usually make my sounds from scratch but until now I had to go parameter by parameter adjusting each value to zero. If I had just read the manual before, I could have spent my time on making music instead of being a jerk

lets say you make your own sound from scratch, how and where do you save it so you can pull it up later? i've tweaked sounds for like an hour or two, got something I liked and lost it trying to figure how to save...and no I didn't read teh manual

when you save a sound you are writing over a preset. you have to turn off the write protection first ( shift + 8 ) to turn off use ctrl knob 1. then select a preset sound that you want to write over and press the write button. I might be leaving out a step, so you should probably check the manual.

Not really a pratical tip but one thing i found helps is just spend a few hours making patches, experimenting with tweaking everything, just fucking about tbh, twisting knobs that you dont know what they do, just try and hear by ear what it does to the sound.....
