Pretty Straight forward tips to get you started creating drums from almost any sample.

Hi Hat:
First thing is to find something hard and snappy in the sample and trim it right down. Add some 12 (12 = Comp - mostly for attack) to give it more attack to you feel its right.

Add some reverb etc to get your desired sound but keep the original sample you created as you can use it to create the others.

Snare:
The HH with some reverb.

Bass Drum:
HH with some sub bass and reverb

Bongo:
Start with the bass drum and use 18 (ring Mod) to get the sound started. A bit of 16 can help with the sound too.

Use 19 (Chromatic PS) or 20 (Voice Transformer) to change the pitch - I find 19 (Chromatic PS) useful for pitching all my samples.

They won't be amazing drums to start with but with some tweeking you'll be surprised at what you can get. Use 13 (Equalizer) (radio tuning can also help out) to remove the unwated frequencies for each drum part.

No worries, look forward to hearing your beats.

Try a bit of delay or echo as well as the reverb for the snare with maybe a bit of sub bass thrown in for fun.

Most of all have fun playing :)

newbie question here: after each piece has been tweaked, you gotta re-sample it with the new fx on it, yeah? bc the 404 only plays one fx per pad....true?

thanks amigos

Correct. You would put the effect you want on the sample, resample it to another pad, and then that frees up the effects again to add a new effect to the resampled pad or another sample altogether...

hats- shaking a handful of coins
snare-clunking two TV remotes together+resampled with coin sample and several efx
