2 pt3r:
you said: I do all sequencing, sampling chopping and mixing on the sp-404. Are you satisfied with polyfony? 12 voices is too little for me. How you record bass and beats and samples on your sp without multitrack recorder-you said you use recorder only for final raw rec. I dont understand your technique.

12 voice of polyphony is actually a good fair amount. Say your playing kick, snare, hihat, ride, conga, bass, 3 note chord and 1 note lead in mono. and thats only 10. And for the 404 thats unrealistic since you will probably be sampling short phrases and chords already.

Hey, is here some option how to sync Tascam DP-01 and SP-404?
I mean, when i have recorded drums from SP, and want to rec bass or sample loop to another track, it will not be in sync naturally.

i think you could sync them thru midi, if the tascam has midi connection.

If you want your music to be club/radio ready it needs to work in mono.

If you have to get your tunes ready for vinyl pressing, mono is absolutely vital - stereo tricks just will not work! I once had had a white-label pressed with a stereo bassline and the whole bassline vanished from the wax :(

On the whole polyphony thing, the low voice-count on the SPs means that you are forced to 'comp' parts together, such as all your drums for instance. This is actually what the pros do in their big fancy studios anyway - it makes everything 'fit' together better.

A lot of people working with a computer DAW don't know this and continue to keep all 58 tracks of their tune seperate - and they wind up sounding seperate in the mix too....

The notes don't have to be played at exactly the same time for polyphony to be an issue - the new note just has to start before the old one has finished. Granted, this wont happen very often with drum sounds, as they are very short in general - but with other sounds like strings for example it can happen very easily.

Yes it is very possible. 8) Don't make every sample stereo.

can't answer the radio one,

but I think with clubs it's that if your bass is in stereo - only some parts of the room will be "right" - ie the right distance between the two speakers for the bass to work... whereas other parts of the room the sound will cancel because of phase. . or something like that.
