Hey, can anyone recommend a good cheap recording software that doesn't need an interface? just the line in on the soundcard of a PC? I just want to record my SP jams live and have a second track for vocals, then burn to cd.

Reaper is great. If it's too much you try either of these.

acid xpress from sony is pretty nice for freeware, n also has a very simple layout. i believe it has built in ripping functions too but don't quote me on that

It's always nice to see great programs that are available for everyone interested. The people that code that stuff do a great service to home muscians, I really like reaper compared to audacity which I used previously.

i agree, i think reaper beats most other offerings by a long shot for full daw purposes. if your lookin for something to simply do some basic tracking then audacity is a little more clean cut for the novice user. for mangling your samples or tracks after there brought in though nothing beats the acid workflow. just my 2 cents i'll shut up now

Oh, for sure I'm a ninja in ACID Pro it has a great work flow for beat mangling. Although I have been into my 303 for a few years straight with software only used for tracking my stuff.
