It depends. I usually just keep banging till I get it perfect, but I do use it occasionally.

Quantize is cool, but I rarely use it. It usually ruins the feel of a beat a bit. It's not a bad thing to use it, but whenever I'm not in a hurry... I try to go without.

quantize is very useful if you have some drum samples with a bit of silence before the actual sound.

you can adjust the start point by fine increments and add some "swing" - and fine tune it if you change the bpm.

i think that came from one of frantic's old posts -

Its all about vibe with me. Rarely is Everything quantized with me, but somtimes everything is, but rare. I may quantize my snares, freehand my hats and kicks. Often times if the sample is loop oriented, then I may just quantize and set my loop points accordingly. But yeah, its all on the vibe of the sample, or melody, I've created, but there is no just set way. Peace, Duss 8)

im not big on the quantize but... if used sort of abstractly... it can be like a beat shifting partner that turns up real tite variations on your beat. if you set it at a 16 and play a slightly swung groove, depending on what side of the beat your hit is on- it will shift it to where it likes. it might not be what you originally wanted, but it could still be something real nice. just a thought

I never use quantatize. It seems to work well with simple 4/4 drum patterns, but I prefer polyrhythmic drums. It just don't like what it does to the loops.

The more I think about it, the more I think using quantize or not depends a LOT on what you've played on the pads. Sometimes I've screwed up so bad, no quantize will save it... sometimes I've done a great job already, but adding just a little bit of quantize makes it rock. A world 'o difference really.
