Ever since I bought the MV, it changed my whole perspective on samplers. Nowadays, I use SPs like a DAW. 3 hours of sampling time is alot to play with, so I use the polyphony as tracks. 8 polyphony is 8 DAW tracks in my world now. I even record verses to a pad. I kick myself for buying so much shit when a single SP can do it all. Still, can't have enough SPs though :P

how did the MV lead to that change for you?

Late reply, but thread was old.

The MV is a DAW/sampler/synth in physical form to what you have in software today. Everything is there but the recording felt like sampling because I was chopping up my own tracks and rearranging them and I thought "Shit! I can do this in any sampler with resampling and copy and paste features!" Then for one track I connected the preamp and mic to the 606 and recorded (actually sampled) a verse and sync'd and chopped it up to beats. Then I made an album within the MPC500 only as well and I will continue this tradition of samplers and albums.

I've only had this guy for like, two days, and I can't stay away. I've run my synths through the effects processor, I've been sampling all sorts of shit like my gameboy and earlier I took it to the library to brainstorm and start looping for an arrangement. 10/10 I dig this thing.

I use them for different things.

SP202. To give them grit and warmth to what’s sampled. I don’t have a memory card so I pretty much have to back it up to an Akai S20 to downgrade it further.

SP505. Kinda my mini Daw. Just a sketch pad for ideas, but it’s also a great fx box.

SP404og It’s my go to unit for making long loops go glitchy. Love to let it capture something I made on a synth & just sound like it’s gonna break down. Don’t really do much beat making on it though. I’m not that much of a finger drummer.
