i dont really know how to put this but im trapped in the classic "16bars" layout and i wanna break free from that and actually make a composition. i dont know if that sounds right but to me its like a beat that coincides with novels. like a prefuse 73 type joint or blockhead somebody. i only want to do this cuz i wanna put out a tape for u guys to check but i dont wanna hit u with beats laid out in rhyme format and no other style. so please bless me with some ideas reguardless or your style(rock, downtempo, etc)

peace  ...im watching you all!!!!

Just look online for examples of song structure and then examine some songs and how the change sonically during these changes. Beatles songs are usually composed in the classic pop song structure of intro, verse, hook, verse, hook, bridge, verse, outro or something like that.

for song structure i like to throw out the rule book.

if you look at different genres of music and how they formed then you will see that there are always the "classic" heads and then the next-level cats. you see this in every genre, from jazz to rock to the roots of hip-hop.

learning from other people is cool but sometimes i feel like im "studying" the music too much. like sometimes if i listen to an artist or a certain style then i become subconsciously influenced by the music they're making.

i think we're all a little guilty of that. it's only natural that you will be influenced by what you hear. but i like to be influenced but not in a strict way.

like recently ive been working on songs that keep a constant bassline and hi-hat rhythm going through the whole songs but i have multiple drum change ups throughout. it's nothing groundbreaking or anything but im trying to stay away from intro, verse, chorus, verse, break, chorus, outro.

The simplest wall to break down is the "multiple of 4s" style of song structure. Just switch it up so that verses repeat 5 times, or 9, or just 3 times. Just avoid multiples of 4 altogether, that will instantly make your beats sound different, since most, as in almost all, popular music sticks to only switching up after 4 or 8 or 16 or 32 bars.

Even if you stick to 3 verses of 16 bars, make sure not each verse is the same. Have the drums cut out in different spots, put some extra snares in one of them, let only one part of the sample or bass line ride out in different spots, etc. Layer that shit like a big ass sandwich.

Yo... I never heard of an ass sandwich, but if you say it's got layers, I'll take your word for it.
