For the techie type experimenters, there's a new DAW that seems like a cross between Ableton and Reaper. I tried the demo a little bit last night. It's got some good interface design for assigning things like LFO. However, it seems best used on big displays. All I got is an old lappy, so it feels kinda cramped. However, you guys with crazy rigs might dig it.

i took a quick view at their video, i didn't saw a radical difference between ableton and this one.
one interesting point i noticed was the fact that you could write open source (api)

I use reaper and renoise personally, but I think some of the ideas in Bitwig are nice, especially routing of pieces of note data. Very intutitive. Even assigning LFO's is done very intelligently. Don't need a confusing matrix or small selection of stuff to assign them. Very cool.

Sadowick Productions on youtube does some pretty decent vids on Bitwig....seems a little pricey for the first generation though...

honestly I'm stoked to try this out. looks really good on workflow. like if you can think of it, you can get it done. and it's also familiar enough that i feel like it wouldn't be too hard to get used to. the best of the rest if you will. apparently it's super lightweight on cpu too.

i didnt check the price but for linux heads this is probably pretty appealing, also the 3 display would be nice if you own one of those home cockpit looking setups.

all that fancy routing stuff is nice but can you seamlessly hook up your audio box or direct line in and bounce your sp audio right to daw like a tape machine

for the open source nuts out there.

check out ardour, it is like pro tools, but better in my opinion.

you can never go wrong with on ardour workstation .

there is no streamline way to chop and stretch loops and samples on linux to the best of my knowledge, unless you are super intuitive on ardour, audacity and LMMS
but thats why i got a 606 + st 224 + 202 + TASCAM
