Yo, i wonder if turning the bass up on the amp would fix those problems because when i turn ther bass down a quarter on a power amp, it almost sounds normal again, so maybe I can reverse it and turn the bass up a quarter then make my shit like that. that it will magicly have less boom

Yo i found a better way. this you dont gotta mess with your amp eq and you shouldnt have to ever, unless you want rumble in movies or no if your an audio phile , yes the weird kind.

so the new way I figure is, run your shit thru a cassete, and it will let you know when your bass is to heavy, i read this somewhere else, and figured it out on my own too, that if your doing something wrong, it wont sound good on tape, you dont need to tape master, but it will give you a the best idea of what it will sound on everything,

I was a little disapointed in the sound quality of my new tascam mfp01, coming from, the 414mk2 I was expected similiar saturation and for some reason a high speed recording system, also disipointed in missing out when they were 50 bucks, they doubled.

so the way I figure it, is if you work slightly above the hiss,
with peaking just to flicker at +6 DB. or under. bass will be the most obvious and its easy enough to turn it down in pre programming then to ruin all the mixes/masters/signals down the chain.

Other then that its kinda dull and not really the sound im looking for, but i would trade it for a mic or 202 or something, it's really lofi, probably because the standard tape speed and no eq. barely any saturation unless you let it bleed.

anyway, you can do this with a regular cassete deck. if everything sounds good testing on that, it will sound good on anything.

Maybe it's DBX filter on your tape helping out? I think tape sounds better anyway. Even hissy tape with Dolby B...physical limitations of medium tend to lead to better dynamics overall. Just my opinion though.

If nothing else, that rumble...you can use a butterworth filter to taper off the rumble.

I think thats why i was innitially disapointed \with my mfp01. no DBX or eq.

it's been years since i worked with a good tape machine, so at first i thought my tapes were broken. Now i seen the light. the MFP01
KICKS ASS! . You need to do the old school way of 'pre mastering' eq your shit just a tad brighter then you would digital and it will saturate nicely on your tape.

i did a shoot out against digital and I must say the tascam sounded better then 24 bit. So i take my 24 bit sessions and run each track into the tascam mfp01. or just the ones I want to warm up.

i guess i should learn how to use my gear before i start crying that it's lower grade or commercial, which this thing is definetly NOT.

i got it sounding as good as my 414 mk2. ... almost..

still gotta watch your lows though, they boom pretty phat on tape.

you can always eq a bit out after, but 1 run mastering is what im after here. do less, get more. type thing.

word. i guess i could have just left the bad review, and see if prices go down . LOL
