Yo SP fam. I'm tryin to figure out what (spacey) synthesizer/instruments are used primarily on this great instrumental project by JBird?

I think Rhodes. But if anyone can get more specific I'd be very grateful!

sounded to me like a synth with a digital waveform...I'd suspect it was a microkorg that that multitracked. The first sound is a pretty straightforward synth string sound. the sound you hear later as a lead is a basic square wave played up around c4 or so.

Any ideas on VST's that emulate that vintage ambient 80's smooth boogie style sound?

its pretty basic so its not necessarily so much of what synth as much as what settings. i'd say look into Roland Juno clones, pro 53 by native instruments is great for that, and for that matter you can't go wrong with Linplug Albino.

A slightly different and potentially cheaper option would be to use something like the korg m1 vst which would have similar sounds and all of the samples from the m1 workstation. at $49, the plugin is an absolute steal. korg poly 6 is the same price but is a flat out synth plugin.

If you're on a budget, check out Synth1. It's free and there's a billion user patches for it too.
