Hi,

I've been reading this forum for awhile now before I made my purchase of the 303. Can't wait to get it! I would like to say thanks to all for all the knowledge/information given. Below are a couple of questions I have regarding using the two together.

1. I don't have a mixer yet so no MIDI. I'm planning to record my samples from the 1000 to 303 and then 303 back to 1000.

What is the best way to do this and could you please shed some more light using Ext Source?

2. I heard some good music that was made with the 303 and I like the sound that it can create. Unlike the 1000 where what you sample is what you get due to there isn't effects like the 303. I know to sample from vinyl also helps to thicken your drums to make it sound more full. I saw a good advice from Olby and can't wait to try it, his settings on how to use the effects to make your drums sound close to an SP-1200.

What do you guys find is the best way of using Vinyl Sim, Lo-Fi, & Compression for your drums?

I'm also planning to use a tape recorder. I know it's trial and error but a tip will be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're going to use the mpc1k and sp303's vinyl sim compressor, make sure you turn off the mpc1k's compressor on the master output or whatever or you might over compress your shit.

I usually filter my drums and then only add compression at the very end in most cases

when using the any of the 3 i always add my kick in after my hats or snares or percussion. occasionally i'll even do that dead last after the music too. depends on what kind of sound you're going for. i just recently started using an mpc 2000 again before my 303, but when resampling back into the mpc (after you're done with what you're doing) i prefer to get the levels down so i can crank the 303 all of the way up to get the crunch sound without being unmanageable in the mpc. you can then do drops easily and whatnot.
