hi,

just wonder what is the best way to sample from poor quality
sources, like youtube or mp3s. I know some people staight,.
up Q, The youtube right into the sampler from the headphone
jack on their computer, into the line in or mic in on the SP.but
I am able to tell when something has been sampled from a
youtube movie. I think it is the WMV encoder that makes it
so noticable, What I did before when I needed to sample something
like this from a computer, I would run the whole song to tape first
with a desired eq or high level to saturate it to my liking, then
sample it, because I have the whole song in a custom quality
and can take the parts I need, the problem I face now is, my
new crappy tapedeck only has rca in and out, making it difficult
for me to flip wires around all the time just to use it, so I
want to cut the tape machine out of the process, what would
you recomend, for if you want to sample from these noisy
sources. ?

Your method is a good one letting the tape deck smooth over the aliasing and artifacts from Youtube compression- also always make sure the Youtube is set to at least 480p when you play- can make a huge difference in the audio quality.

You could just set up the tape deck using adapter from comp to tape deck:

You could then use splitter on the SP inputs if you have multiple inputs to go there like these:

yeah, the 606 only has

1/4 inch L-R in and out.

so I ordered some 1/4 to rca's . for that, but still my tapedeck
only has rca outs, so I will have to plug it into an amp, see what
i mean, to much flopping wires around, cause when i want to sample
the tape i gotta re patch everything around , arrg.. it worked way
better with my old tape deck, it had headphones out, for monitoring.

Another idea-

If you are handy with a soldering iron you can make an amp to use easy and cheap-

Just mount it in any ol enclosure. I have built stuff like this really easy.

You can actually use a free webservice to download the movie in it's original format which sometimes ends up being better than the youtube compressed/processed version.

Doesn't matter much as it's still an extra step. Either bounce from tape or rip from source.

if you use your soundcard to rip audio : over sampling will
help too, I think i'll just sample straight into the 606 audio, since my usb
202 interface has rca outs > rca to 1/4 adapter > 606 in.

over the last 5 years or so my glitch pop static problem from computers mostly
becomes worse and worse to the point I dont even use computers.
I'm not shure when it started but every recording ive tried to make
in the last many years, have a sneaky static creeping in. since I got
the 606 it has calmed down, but my youtube still glitches unless i let
it load and play it a few times. on the guitar you gotta stay away from
the pickups, cause theyll cause static problems too, and I figure theyre
haunted so, i do anything to avoid them. ie, switch off ext before jacking in,
switch off external shit, after shut down and unplug sp wires.

dude, get a humidifier, sounds like your place is crazy dry. You can also make sure your outlets are properly grounded and if not check the ground of the house/building- usually a piece of rebar going into the ground with a big ass wire clamped to it- make sure it is not loose.

Is the static on anything electrical or just the computer? Maybe it is the OS- you could wipe it or try to fix it.

Don't know where you live but I would build you that amp- would not take long.

the static is electrical mostly, sometimes digital glitching, mostly
electric static, maybe the neighbor firing up the microwave, or something
like that, it comes around if you move anything while recording,
but sometimes it just comes and goes, I got the static bugs mostly
under control using reasonable levels, and most importantly clean
new cables, I notice you can eliminate some hum by unplugging the
power from your laptop when recording. my house is grounded properly
i dont have a problem with buzz or that, just little ticks that come from
no where. but the neighebor hood is old, and there is TV and internet
running thru power lines now, so anything could be causing it. all i know
is that it's not as bad anymore . they used to come in sometimes
after i rendered a file and listened to it a few times, a fuckin static
would nest itself somewhere obvious, ha.

it's mad humid where I am. but I do notice paranormal stuff sometimes
like ESD, EVP , cold hot spots all over my house, orbs, sometimes it's
plain mental torture, but mostly peachy living alone with the sp and raising a dog, skateboarding besides music/
