I dont know if the CMC has midi, doesn't look like it does. The MPD probably does have a midi connection but I could be wrong. Get the one that had standard midi connection so you can hook it up to other hardware with midi otherwise your stuck only being able to use a computer. Or having to get a midi interface and running a threeway to get your pad controller to. lets say, control your 404.

If thats not a concern, get the akai hardware, usually cant go wrong. If you wanna take the road less traveled, you might not get the support that akai has, like software support or other programs n shit like that.

both usb. got the steinberg ur22 audio/midi interface so i could 3-way it but not a big deal. mostly to control some simple triggering of garageband samples.. not sure if the smaller pads will be really as playable as the mpd

I have a Korg padKontrol that has USB and standard MIDI and has roll, flam, etc. Something to consider- I personally love the roll feature and ability to use w a computer or with hardware which is how I use it mostly (404SX, RS7000, etc)
i love the small size of that first one though- that is hella nice. What I would really love to see is a USB to standard midi adapter that does not require a computer so you could use newer controllers like the 2 you are considering with older non-USB gear.

Good luck-
C

had the korg nanopad and it was always moving around when you hit it too hard--the little steinberg one is probably gonna do that too..
padkontrol is $170 vs $80 for the mpd and i don't mind the usb, its just for basic vst triggering
