had one and sold it, its too mechanical I found making beats and didn't feel like an instrument. Its incredibly powerful but the time stretch is ok, doing glitch and stutters is fun but I much prefer the sp/mpc to making stuff than owning an ot which is way over priced.

i was also looking into this as well as the machinedrum and decided against it because of how overly technical it is. especially for such a large price. anything over 800 and i start to feel like their are better and more affordable machines out there

I was under impression it's basically Abelton Live in a hardware box as far as aligning loops and stuff goes.

Virtual Flannel also uses an OT & he's pretty friendly to PM.

But honestly the few OT clips I've watched show music you can make on an ESX. With a little elbow grease you can beat repeat on it just like OT. 'Spose you could say the ESX to an Octatrack is like an SP-505 to an MPC 2500. ESX & SP-505 are older & more limited but just as capable for producing/playing live... BUT a damn site cheaper & heaps more approachable.

Don't be put off by the step sequencer & limited memory, the ESX is a beast. Super underrated. Dear Korg, pay me.

thats kinda what it is actually.. i know my homie sold his and was sayin shit like if you have renoise tracker you dont really need an octatrak.. but even there, its the hardware vs software matter. yea

its nothing like ableton live at all, its the most powerful sampler created but the workflow and process behind it is nothing like Ableton Live.

i think you can find plenty of daw's or vst's that are equally or more powerful than the octatrack.

Yes but I was dismissing the fact that the line Ableton in a box is incorrect, anything software based is more powerful thats a given but its the tweakibility and intuitivity of hardware which is cool

Yeah, but you could just use a controller and get a hardware feel and software flexibility for far less money. Unless you are eccentric and really want the all analog in one box sampler combo than the octatrack seems amazing, but for the average amateur producer I think it is irrelevant.
