Does any one else try manually ducking out samples? ie without using compression.

Loop up a kick and as then as you play your loop/chops/chords manually duck the sample out with the voice trans vol.

Can take a bit to get the timing right but its nice if you dont want to lose the characteristic of your kick or whatever you would normally have to compress to get that ducking sound.

I did this quite a bit when using sample hardware/programs without built in compressor effect. It's a good technique to know and good for the swiss army knife producers that can work with everything. Just like 'fake' delay, 'fake chorus', etc. All those techniques that are possible without effects that you can do with will power and patience.

This is something I used to do this all the time with the 606's BPM tremolo set to rising sawtooth (this shape-> /|). Use quarter note lengths for standard kick-on-one-snare-on-two rhythms, use half length notes for kick-on-one-snare-on-three for half time rhythms. Works like a charm.

The 505 can write the velocity (volume) of little portion of a sample. So basically you can decide when the sample it will be or not with accent. You can also mute part of the samplewith this function. And, obviously, you can do ducking manually with it.
On the 606 gate effect parameter there is a ducking section: this could be useful to duck incoming audio.
