I was wondering if this is possible to do. Basically I want to record samples, note for note, of a synth I have. I don't want to gig with the synth because it's cumbersome, I'd rather gig with a sampler and a midi keyboard controller.

So if I sample the sounds and put them on the Roland SP-404SX, can I access their sounds, note for note, with ease with a MIDI Keyboard controller? I know the SP-404SX has sound banks so could I just switch banks to go from tone to tone and use a whole range of notes, from like C4 to C6?

If the SP404SX is capable of doing this, would an 8GB card be enough to sample about 20 different tones/patches of a synth?

I haven't tried that with the 404sx, but should fit the bill for what you want. 8gb is more than enough. The Microsampler comes to mind after reading the post. Not sure what the size difference is from your synth and the microsampler though.

Would it still be possible to trigger sounds from the pad at the same time playing other sounds from the midi keyboard?

I don't want to use the microsampler because it has tiny keys and I still want to trigger samples via pads.

I have a microsampler and a 404sx.

I play in a band and have a sd card with single notes/samples and I play them off the 404.

It works wonder.

Never bothered playing it off a controller, unless you want velocity or more than 12 pad at a time (you will be limited to 12 voices tho).

The microsampler is damn fine for the job as you could simple sample 10 seconds or each synth patch (always a C) and rock chords in a much simpler way.

I would use that if I had a better memory with keys, sadly, number works better for me!

ya dude load the synth into a bank, different note on each pad. i ALWAYS do this for bass on my 505, got a bank with 16 bass notes but applies for any synth/instrument.
