turntable ------------>mixer (for phone preamp)
mixer aux out --------> sp 303 inputs (to record vinyl and mpc sequences)
sp 303 outputs ------> mpc 1000 inputs (to record processed signal)
mpc 1000 outputs ---> mixer (to hear what im doing, sequencing etc.)

i want to use the sp 303 for effects, compression and lofi mainly. i want to record sequences on the mpc, and then add compression to my drums, so then i would turn on sp 303 [EXT SOURCE], sample onto a 303 pad and then record back onto the mpc1000, with the effect applied.

before i go buy the cables, i need to know if this signal path will work or not and if there is an easier way to hook it up.

thanks everybody!

I'm gonna say it will cause feedback. Do you have 1 mixer or 2? When doing this setup generally u have a scratch mixer for turntable and then like an 8 channel mixer for everything else.

If you go from mpc to monitors or headphones there will be no feedback.

What mixer do you have?

yeah it will

u could just plug your headphones/stereo into the MPC rather than plug it into the mixer I think

It's not really possible without changing cables on the outputs each time you want to bounce from different machines.

The only way samplers can "record" their own output is by internal resampling in which case you still can not achieve what you want.

Bottom line, just change around the cables each time.

i saw someone run a turntable into a mixer, the mixer into the mp and then the mp back into the mixer, with out feedback, i was boggled and like uh, then all a sudden he starts mixing all the old symphony records with some beastie boys, and im like this dude is from mars.

I don't know exactly how you wan tyour workflow to be, but you could...

all your shit ===> Sp-303
Sp-303===> MPC
MPC===> Sp-303 via mic input

I imagine there is another way to do utilizing aux outs, perhaps running everything through a second mixer with several tape outs and such.

BTW how is the MP treating you Mowgli?

yeah if you have pre-fader sends or per-channel routeable aux outputs you could do it,
you will need a decent mixer to get those features. cheap ones only have post-fader sends and generally the monitor output is the same as the master so it wouldnt work

yo ceedubs the mpc has been treating me real nice and has definitely taken my production to another level. that thing with the 303 can make for a really solid worflow and gives me the best of both worlds. once i get a 404 in the mix ill be fully satisfied.
