am a new SP 404 owner, and still struggling to lay down so tracks, because so far i find this programming by taping the pads in real time not so easy to do (much respect to those who can do it) .... so i was thinking i got this old roland drum machine TR 626, with pretty nice step sequencing, with graphic display of where the voices fall, and i was wondering if somebody here has already tried to trigger and sequence the SP404 with it (or for that matter with any other drum machine).

i mean stuff like things about midi sync, assignment of voices so that the 404 recognizes the TR626 sequence, midi channel, etc..

and more generally, how many people in this forum use the SP404 with an external sequencer vs use the SP404 all by itself to program patterns ?

thanks !!!!

there's a thread about external sequencing in the 404 area

i quite often use an external sequencer, and i recommend it. the 404's internal sequencer is good, and can be ideal for some situations, but it is good to have a bit more control over what you're laying out

technically it is very easy to do. plug a MIDI cable from the Out of your drum machine, into the In of the 404. make sure the 404 is receiving MIDI on the same channel the drum machine is sending it, and you are in business :)

Actually playing is def harder. Get a decent step sequencer but practice your live playing ! :)

no doubt

drums especially will sound much more fresh if they're not programmed
