im sure i could probably figure it out, but im wondering how to achieve that thick/thin kick drum sound, an example would be the kick drum in tyler the creators song "yonkers", or the kick in samiyam's song "pressure"

if i was trying to achieve that id probably

filter out the high frequencies of a kick drum with a fat low-end. (for the thickness)

and then layer a thin punchy kick over the top of it for the thin punchiness.

also maybe just compressing a kick drum with a fat low end and adjusting the attack so that you get the punch you want.

Listening to the samiyam track right now. I doubt there is any layering going on there. Sounds like a sample from a Casio or toy keyboard type instrument or maybe even a Tom drum? I would say it's for sure a sample library drum machine type joint not a record sample or anything. I really think it has been pitched up or down. I know what your saying about that cool crispy attack with the roundness and bottom like an 808, this is why I think its a tom pitched down or something. Anyways....could be totally wrong, but thats what I hear.

sub bass on the 404 is always a awesome tool for reinforced kicks, get it in tune with the rest of the drums or sample or synths or whatevs and always gets subs bumping really hard
