well, the most accurate timestretch's i've come across are Ableton's "complex" mode and Kontakt is pretty good too. but as i said i like timestretch as an effect for granular processing.

i was just using Akai's timestretch as an example because it's one of the few i've come across in hardware form. i don't own nor do i endorse mpcs. :)

If you want a timestretch that adds some color to a sample than the 404, I like mpc's and used to have one but I like my 303 more, the timestretch sounds so unique and you can hear it in Madlib's beats all the time after using for your own music a few times.

Apparently the V-Synth has the best timestretch (in hardware); I dunno though - the V-Synth is $6000 in oz (last time I looked).
Doesn't Vivi have one? Perhaps she could tell us if the V-Synth's is as good as the hype?? (would the REAL vivi please stand up - haha).

As for software - I like Sony Acid the best for timestretch, although Sonar has awesome quality in its 'best' mode, I actually like the sound Acid imparts on the sound, especially at extreme settings!

I agree with 606man I find the acid pro algorhythm to be very nice for most things. It does impart an interesting sound quality to extremely stretched samples. You can hear this very vividly in the track I made called Astrophysical on soundclick. I've also heard that the v-synth is the best hardware time stretch other than some studio rack gear designed to only stretch samples.

I use the timestretch as an effect on the 404. I love that warbled sound.

after playing around with the timestretch today, i've come to the conclusion that its fairly unique. can't knock it for being that.

yeahh...im sorry 4 the delay... 8) , i have a v-synth xt...the timestretching called "variphase" Elastic Audio Synthesis engine, is great! you can sample a vocal and play a chorus, and change the tempo in real time without lost quality audio...look the videos in www.rolandus.com ...specially Tonee McGuire in namm05.....in the middle of this video! :P
i use and processing a lot of sounds into my v-synth xt in my ultimate fashion show, called "tropico" look the videos in www.youtube.com/vivipedraglio and one track in my player in myspace..."tropico xl"
i use "variphase".

kisses, vivi.
