Hi

Let's say: I've got different samples, all with different speed.

If I create a pattern (play drums, whatever) and want to put some of those samples in, how can I NOW, while I'm recording the pattern, change the speed of a sample?

Is that possible?

Thx.

[Obviously LimpyLoo has the answer for this as well!]

well, you can't really do much WHILE you're recording. you could (hypothetically) do it while you're...wait a gosh-darned minutes...you wouldn't be trying to play those BUGGIN' samples, would you!?!

alright, I'd say you could (depending on your gear, of course):

a) pitch shift the sample multiple times and assign those to pads

b) try to perform the pitch-shifting live using 'pitch' or 'chromatic ps'

c) buy a sampling keyboard

Wait man, I'm not talking about those "buggin-samples". That's a different story.

Here I'm talking about a guitar sample, for instance. So I play the drums and everything around it...and it happens that the guitar sample is too fast.

:?:

I think I could make the whole drum pattern faster as well and then kick the guitar in. Afterwards I could slow the whole thing back down again...but I'm not sure if that would affect the speed of the guitar.

oh oh oh speed as in tempo/bpm. Only way I see this working is if you turn entire pattern into a single sample, assign it to a pad and then alter tempo via 'time/bpm' or [insert name of probable awesome 404sx effect that probably does this more reliably than 'time/bpm'].

you could also chop the guitar part into much much much much smaller pieces and assign the pieces to multiple pads so it would follow changes in bpm. i'm not sure what the guitar part is, but I would recommend this if it's possible. :D

post the guitar part if you want more specific help.

Which is...?

I got the SP since yesterday, so don't blame me if I don't know how all things work..

Oh, btw, even with "this miraculous effect" it should be possible while recording the pattern. Is it? Or is your effect half so wonderful :P

this is where I become *absolutely* useless as I don't own a 404sx so I don't know. :?

1. try to time stretch the guitar, hit the pad so it is 'selected', then hit the bpm button, and use the first effect knob to change the tempo, i would record the pattern as you want it without the guitar, and then exit record mode, play the pattern, and play the guitar live over the pattern while messing with the tempo till it fits

2. use a turntable or program on your comp (depending on your sample source) to pitch the guitar before hand, but this might cause it to be out of key with the other samples you had in mind

3. if your pattern is only one hits and you can speed up the bpm of the whole pattern without losing other things you want, do that until the guitar fits, but if you have different full sized chunks of different sounds and pieces, this isn't really a good option

You're the man! Even if you're a woman :D

I didn't know that it's possible to exit the record mode and let the pattern play. (And to exit the pattern select mode!)

Great help, thx!
