So I'm trying to figure out a remedy for tracking out and getting the files on my comp. My laptop only has a headphone jack on it, and no audio inputs..thus I've been recording everything to cassete. Where I am stuck is, trying to get the tracks from my portastudio and onto my computer..any ideas?

Specs..it's an older edition iBook G4 if that helps

^^ it is the same... you still being stuck with a PC without inputs...
at this point you have 2 options:
1.- a New PC with audio input
2.- an interface

Without inputs there is no way that you could accomplish this... unless your portastudio has a internet connection then you upload it to the net and download it in to your PC, which I doubt! LOL

The cheaper route i'm guess is the interface..something that would connect via usb? (the only aux ports I have) suggestions?

Most probably the cheapest way with good quality to get an input could be this...

The Mbox2 Micro, they are not producing this anymore but you can find them on Ebay for sure... IDK maybe out there exist something cheaper but I like Digidesign since they always have good products, I used to have the Mbox2 original and it served me well for several years until I upgraded to the Digi 003 console

on some macs you can change the headphone jack into an audio input via the system settings, this might not be the case on old macs but its worth a look. the onley problem is now you dont have an avalable output for desk speakers or anything, and it gets annoying switching it back and forth.

An audio interface is your only solution unless your Portastudio got a USB connection (DP units have it). Or bust out the cd recorder and record it all to disk, then toss it in your mac and burn the songs to a music folder, voila.
