word, i was just wondering about the two on the front labeled mic/instrument because those are the only inputs on the audiobox which a few people here have said they have and i assume they are using it line level devices through those two(and only)inputs, although, i could be way off and maybe the audiobox has line level inputs on the back too. i'll give it a try in logic or live tonight and see if i can get all 4 inputs to show up...

From what I understand, you are not s'posed to put line levels thru the front inputs on either. They are specifically for mics and instruments as they run thru the presonus preamps. On the firebox, the line inputs are def on the back. The bug might be Tracktion 2. I have a firebox and Tracktion 3, and every input shows up... 4 ins and 6 outs + 2 digital Ins and Outs.

Anyone with a mac with firewire should get the Apogee Duet soundcard if you consider buying anything!

Preamp is incredibly good, and everything in/out sounds neutral clear and detailed. I'm extremely satisfied with mine.

Used a Tascam DP02 before, and it's cool, but it's much faster for me to record in Garageband or whatever, and then the file is in the computer, no exporting to .waw and transferring over USB or card reader. Plus while 16 bit works good for beats, I prefer 24 bit which is king when recording vocals/rhodes and other live or acoustic stuff.

provided you dont need more than 1 stereo in/out, the duet would be great..

if you're buying it though, be aware that the headphone out is the same as the main out - ie you can't use it for mixing in traktor or something, unless you create a composite device from the builtin sound and the duet - then you could have the cue/monitor mix send to the onboard card's output, and the main out send to the duet's output.
