Hey i posted this under tips and tricks but I think it belongs better under production techniques, Anyways i just got an SP and am really inexperienced and new to producing so I would appreciate any help!!

I have a question regarding making drum loops. I want to create a drum loop on the Sp404, however I don't want to make it as a pattern, but as a sample. I want to do this because I want to mess with layers of sequenced samples while playing the Sp live, however, the SP only lets you play one pattern at a time.

I have tried making a pattern, then resampling that pattern onto a pad as a sample, however, I discovered on this forum that you are unable to do it on the SP404

Is there a way I can create a drum loop out from my drum samples by using the resample function instead of creating a pattern?

Thank you

there are a TON of threads on this (i would be even at least one on the front page) but you can resample yourself playing live as a resample (with no sequencer) or you can

record yourself with some piece of external gear .

make a pattern with the 404 sequencer.

plug your 404 into another sampler, your computer, a tape player, an itouch/iphone, or even some nonsmart phones and record that pattern.
then plug your device into the audio in of the 404 and record your pattern from the external gear back into the 404 to a pad.

you will then have to adjust the start and end points so that your pattern on the pad is on point.. its "a lot" of work (not really) but to have a drum pattern on one pad (using the sequencer) you pretty much have to do it this way. the other way you set up resample then drum out the pads live and its very loose sounding but with practice will sound good.

Of course, its easy. You can only resample two stereo samples simultaneously, though. So, hit resample, then record, then play the bass and snare parts and edit the sample so it loops nicely. Then over that, add any hi-hats or clicks. There you go, easy.

Or, like Tim says, if you have another recording unit, you can just play the beats live and record them onto something else, then record it back into the sp and edit the loop's start/end.
