i just got an MPC 2000XL and i have been having trouble trimming my samples. everytime i get a sample it's automatically divided into 16 different zones, and i just want to trim the start and end point of the whole sample, not each individual zone. how do i go about doing this without it automatically dividing my sample? i know this isn't an mpc forum, but the mpc forums sucks compared to you guys. any help would be greatly appreciated!

also how do i go about chopping the sample into as many different parts as i want? i remember reading it somewhere on the net, but can't find how to now.

keep in mind i havnt used an mpc in 3 or 4 years now but i dont think its supposed to automatically divide the sample like that. hit shift>trim and then set the start/end point.

in the trim screen go to zone and punch in how many pieces you want the sample to be chopped into.

haha yeah mpc forums suck so i figured i'd try here. but i guess what i was talking about was that it assigns each sample i do to all 4 banks on all 64 pads, but then when i go to program it's all good. i actually figured out how to do it on my own. finally starting to get the hang of it a litttttle bit. just recorded a sequence and what not. anybody got any tips or advice for starting out on this beast? i can't wait to incorporate the 404 with this, but should i master the mpc first?

start off by using one sequence for the whole track. just layer up track by track. Drums on first track, bass on 2nd track, a loop on the 3rd track, ect..Then use the "track mute" button to mute and unmute tracks during playback. The pad number represents the track number. so if you push pad 3, it will mute track 3. i would use with the efx on the 404 though.

you don´t have to slice the sample with zones, in trim screen, simply adjust the start/end points and press "do it" or create a copy of the sample ur using... its really easy :)

well theres a few ways... as far as storage size it depends... i have both a zip 100 drive and a 250(jus in case) 100 mb disks can be read in both drives but if ur disk is 250 mb it can only be read in a zip 250...

if u can find an external zip drive that will work... i came across my internal drive(250) on ebay along with 5 disk and and reader... for 35 bucks so i advise u to search out on ebay for deals like that... also check for deals on the disk themselves since chain stores tend to charge 30 bucks for 3 disks and ive got them off ebay for 10-15 bucks for 10 of em....
