i don't totally know what it is about smokin weed and beats, i think that lifestyle when formed from ages 13-20 has a tendency to go many ways, one of them being hip hop and sampling, which keeps it as a big part of why they got into it in the first place, plus gettin weeded gets me in this zone where i'm just tryin to listen critically and get involved, its some therapy shit, i don't always work my best when i'm smokin out, but i'm not always gonna work my best anyway, shit comes in spurts, but i'm totally a night owl burntout worker, not doin shit all day and being over tired and then all of a sudden gettin into it at like midnight and next thing you know its almost 4 and i'm like fuck i just wanna finish this 3rd pipe i packed an hour ago and finish this record, but then you find somethin on that record and get into it........i realized i got a habit of needing tunnel vision to be into something, and i have an obsesive personality, and either i'm about something or i got no motivation, its not the healthiest lifestyle but i thrive on it, love the extremes, whether its the highs or the lows

that's a cool process, sounds really peaceful.

sometimes ill try and sit down in the evening (or even late at night) with the sole intention of being productive and knocking something out... and then get NOTHING done... then sometimes ill have 20 minutes before i have to leave for work and that time is more productive than an evening spend dabbling...

i dont smoke weed anymore and usually if i try and drink and make music i end up side tracked and get nothing done other than family guy and american dad....

smoking weed and making music is fun but it got too distracting for me, i would just end up tweaking a synth for an hour or just stare at the pads blink

im actually thankful i have no desire to smoke weed anymore. to each their own though

I envy the dudes who can not smoke and make beats. Some might call it a crutch, I call it if I'm not smoked out I just sit there bored and have no direction. Some people get stupid and lazy others get inspired. Oh ya, I have to be alone too. No one in the house, or everyone else has to be sleeping. Can't make beats with other peoples strange energy all about.

my ish is the same whether im on beats or rhymes regardless of whether im smoked out or not. i jus enjoy smoke to be fair, allways have, allways will. but yeh, each to there own.

i usually smoke but i do one bong rip per hour or so... smoking more makes me zone out. just a bit to get me into the groove then get lost in my samples. up in my room or my porch, it has a glass ceiling so its a nice change of pace. anywhere there is a plug ill throwdown, or if i have batteries. if there are people around i throw on the internal mic and record some random ish that ill twist into sounds. always standing... when i try and sit ill end up on my feet within 5 min. but it kiiiiills my back usually rainy weather gets me in the mood as well, or a snow storm. and tea or coffee/espresso... or both. earl grey, green tea or red tea(loose leaf!!!)

usually get smoked out and do nothing, i really have to stop smoking that much.

i work only three days a week, so days when i'm not working i usually try to bang out a beat each day. the night before my break from working i get to bed early. so that i can wake up early. i don't set an alarm though. after waking up naturally i go to the kitchen and make a big pot of coffee. i work sitting down with a short desk. i then work for a few hours on a new beat crate digging and whatnot until i lay down most of my patterns. then i take a brake to eat because i usually have a hunger headache by then. i take my time making a good meal, then i go back to the cave and fine-tune my existing patterns and make new ones. i usually monitor back and forth between headphones and speakers. by the time i'm done it's probably 4 pm and i'm ready for another meal. after my early dinner i track out everything onto a hardisk recorder. and basically finish the song. then it's about 11 and i'm ready for a late night meal. then i watch cartoons for an hour and try to pass out by midnight.

no weed for me. just coffee or tea with a few breaks.

I guess any time I shouldn't be making them seems to be the time I get my ideas - like right now at work.

I have a free copy of sony acid and some samples on disk for when I can't resist it any longer. My name is Steve and I have a problem.

sometimes i like to have my gamecube running, with mean bean machine or something on, start making a beat, play a little then repeat till im done...
night times the best too, anytime when it feels like your the only one up...
