ahhh i dont quite get what your asking

but its good to have normalized samples

but not having all your tracks hitting 0 when you are writing/recording in a daw...

when you are on your SP, you dont want to peak out really cause once you do you are fucked, you can always turn shit up by resampling through the isolator, eq with all three knobs kicked up

as for the madlib effeect....beats me...i would search for an interview with his engineer because i remember hearing that the engineer doubles up his kicks when he gets the stereo files from him because they disappear...not sure tho

it could be that the lower parts were below the 404's compressors threshold which setting's is defaulted at a certain level they dont tell you

if you hit above the threshold, then the compressing starts...it could be that the 404's compressors threshold is set to a very very low amount...not sure

The SP-404 COMP effect has a fixed threshold and the user is required to play games with the input level into the effect.

Set your sample volume to get the desired COMP effect. Resample it. Then you can adjust the volume of the wet effect.

HD,

I some 8-track live recordings I did earlier this year for some of my friends experimental rock project band. It was recorder with 6 close dynamic mics and 2 overhead condenser mics all in one room.

1-Kick
2-Snare
3-Left overhead drums
4-Right overhead drums
5-Bass
6-Guitar
7-Guitar
8-Vocal

They were recorded into Ableton thru a Presonus Firestudio. I'll send you the project files if you're interested.

yea send em over, ill get to em eventually if not sooner

@ellaguru
thanks
that guy Macc on the dub forum is a really great engineer, pretty much everything he says I have used in mixing

I use ableton live, but you could use any program that processes audio live, like cubase/protools/FL studio etc
what you cant really use is audacity because everytime you make a change it has to process and load

but mostly it comes down to knowing how to use EQ and compression correctly without abusing it

theres lots of great articles though here's one:
http://www.tarekith.com/assets/mixdowns.html

he tells you to keep the headroom at -6dB ...thats great but after you get a mix I'm sure you are going to want it as loud as your other tracks
