Unfortunately the 404 DOES NOT HAVE MIDI OUT...I hate that. I so wish it did, then I would be in heaven.

As to the type of Music I am making, I produce mostly hip-hop. I also like to experiment with different genres, but hip-hop is my main source.

I love Logic and the power it has. I plan on buying a pad control, or a mpd24 to use along with it considering the 404 does not freakin have 1 damn midi out. But I love hardware and the hands on feel. In my original post I stated that I may not end up getting anything. I was just looking at something to compliment the 404. I would love a more road worthy (battery operated) pad based sampler, but i believe my only options are the mpc500, the new 404sx, or a yamaha qy70 (which doesnt look to bad, but I want to bang on pads, not worry about hitting the right one). I am looking for a sequencer with overdubbing features. even if its only 4 track. maybe better effects like reverb and pitch, and a god dang midi out.

Then again I might take a look at a multitrack recorder. I didnt consider this, but that might be what I am looking for. I think boss make some with a couple decent effects.

And yes I do have money. I dj alot and make pay, but I am not one of those people who always has to buy something unless I truely need (not Want) it. I buy more for friends and fam than I do myself. This is def true because I do way to much research on shit to make sure I am not going to buy it and regret.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Music is Love

*EDIT* - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fostex-MR-8 ... 1125873.gc

This may be something really useful. it has midi out so I believe I can sync this with the 404 to get timing and all correct. Also runs off of batteries. There are some effects.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Tascam-DP-0 ... 1380740.gc

This one doesnt run off batteries but seems more powerful and rugged. The reviews seem pretty nice.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fostex-MRHD ... 1173278.gc

This is almost the same as the first but includes a 40gb hd and more powerful features.

or finally:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-BR-600 ... 1125995.gc

Has pitch correction (dont know if that will do what i want it to for samples), cosm fx, and nice build.

Sorry for throwing all these things at you guys. Like I stated, I love Logic and all that it can do, but the simplicity of hardware just soothes me better. I can probably do without these, but I feel that I would be more productive instead of always looking at a computer screen. I dunno. What do you guys think?

Thanks Again.

i have a qy70. it's a nice machine, good sequencer and some nice synths sound. you can look at Elhau videos about controlling the 404 with the qy70; no sensitive pads indeed.

if this help, i have 2 digital recorders: the tascam dp 01fx wich is good, not portable but give you the possibility to had external fx (it has internal fx also): so i could overdub track using sp303/505/202 or zoom st224 (or whatever) as fx boxes. not bad. i bought it in 2005 for 500€, but now you found it for few €...it has usb port for exchange files with pc. it has midi out.

the second one is a portable digital recorder. the zoom mrs-4; goes on also on battery pawer, it is small; it has some decent internal fx, it let you control the mix with cursors (4 racks); very cheap price. i bought it also beacuse it was the only in his category with Midi Out... Limits: 1)a little "noisy", but not that much;2)goes on smartmedia, so you have 128mb of maximum space...3)no usb 4)it saves in .wav on 32hrz format, so to have a better quality you have to convert files in 44hrz. not difficult indeed, but...

for something with batteries to go alongside your sp 404 - dont overlook the kaosscillator with all the efx of the 404 and resampling you can get so much out of it for a cheap price
