Hey Fam, Anybody have some tips on Bass lines with the 303 ? most times
i'll make a nice beat but it'll lack some bass on it any tips or techniques some body can share ?

If a keyboard is a last resort is there any with some nice fat thick sounding bass around 300-400 $

I'm not sure about the 303, but the 404 has this effect which let you make bass sounds(effect 22, subsonic).
I actually use my Nintendo DS with DS-10 to make some basslines, but it's hard to get something that sounds good.

Go for a used microkorg or micron if you need a good synth.

Make yourself a kit with pitched 808 kicks and layer them with your actual kicks. Now follow your beat instinct and jus pick the right notes...
404users could use the subsonic.

Is jus one way... depends on the beat your working on.

Classical music records are good for cellos and contrabasses, vsti's are good for an endless source of bass synths and shit. Also look for bass samples in the libary. Use a software to pitch and bam....

I'd say grab a cheap midikeyboard and try toying around with it. I always recommend software synths first, before stepping up to the real ones.

You cant go wrong with a microkorg. The pitched 808 idea is a great one, especially if you put it in gate mode.

Yes, but you have to make your own because the preset basses suck.

This is true, but the raw waveforms sound very nice so its pretty easy to make a good sound. Like you can just initialize the patch and change the waveform to whatever you like and its nice. Obviously the machine is very deep though.

yes use the raw waveforms

its getting old to go "hey thats the X preset"

if you use synths right no one will be able to tell what keyboard you are using

I do not sample my synths into my sp. When I had an mpc I used the 16 levels for pitch and would sample bass notes. Now I just record right into ableton(although I sometimes go through the Sp for effects). Not sure which sp you have, but if its a 404 or 555 you could make a bank with a bunch of different notes. I have the 303 so its kind of time consuming to sample a bunch of notes.
