i love the sp-404 effects, is there anything vst based that will give me some similar control/sound to the sp's time and pitch tweaking effects (19 and 24 especially)..something i can record the automation of knob tweaks etc still......im not planning on ditching the sampler, i just want to get some of that vibe on a few bits and pieces i do inside the box....ive just ordered battery 3 to run in sonar....its a lot of hassle to run tracks from my daw, out the back of my soundcard and in to the sp404 then back in to the pc again all the time, and sometimes its nice to be able to have the 'non-permanence' of the hardware....

Glitch chops up your audio in real-time and applies a variety of effects which can either be chosen at random, manually sequenced, or a mixture of both. The sounds it generates range from quite subtle to extremely bizarre, depending on how much you tweak the controls.

Now if only I had a DVS that hosted VST's

You don't need a DVS that's capable of doing that, just use a DAW like Reaper.

I'm pretty confident Reaper will work.

When it comes to DJing the DAW's don't cut it. If there is a DAW that has a MP3 library manager that can handle the tags of 10,000+ tracks then we would be on to something. Also DAW's need to tempo map tracks in order to perform beat matching with them. The best DAW at this I have seen is Ableton Live, but it takes 10 seconds for analysis which is too long. DVS's load tracks in 0.5 seconds and it only takes a good ear 2 seconds to identify the tempo and key of a track to figure out if it will drop in the mix.

My experience is that DAW's are superior for doing DJ mix tapes, but for live DJ gigs DVS's are the highest performance product available because of their capability for rapid gear shifting and spontaneity in mid set.

I think it is only a matter 1 to 2 years until the big names of these technologies overlap their features.

Yeah, you're right about that. Live it's a whole world a difference still.

if you get your songs analyzed before the show, ableton live will work fine.

But then I lose the element of spontaneity.

I originally purchased my sp-404 as an FX processor for my DJ setup because the DVS FX and other software FX just didn't cut it. And the 404 works awesome. I enjoy experimenting with FX a lot, both hardware and software.

thats why you build a custom library of songs you know work well live

and if not the whole nature of live means even if you have a pre-determined set you can still do live remixes of them with resampling, routing, dummy clips, beat repeat and even making midi loops to drop in over it.

it makes for interesting transitions if you cut out the bass of the track and add your own drumloop then bring in the highs of the next so you essentially have three things going at once.

lots of possibilities

Yes and it can also be hosted as a VST. But... It sucks.

Rewire is another good tool for plumbing audio between software and M-Audio's Torq is the only DVS tha supports Rewire. But unfortunately it sucks too.

I appreciate that people are looking out.

deckadance is fun...it has the only logical waveform view out of any DJ app
they overlap so you can see the peaks on top of eachother where the beat is

on the others they are stupidly placed on both sides of the screen

Serato Scratch Live runs the waveforms vertical side by side.

But anyway peoples, please post some more of your favorite effects VST's. I have little to none in my collection. At some point in the future I will probably turn to using software FX again.

cheers for the suggestions.

yeah, glitch is cool, i was buzzing when i found it, but i was hoping there was something out there that stretched or changed pitch in realtime (that i could record automation of if need be, and it playback the same every time after that....) whilst still keeping time in Sonar...you know the way the sp-404 changes the sound of things in that 'mojo' way, but they still fit......glitch stretch is cool, but it only slows the sample, im after something that goes both ways, whilst making it fit the bpm of the project still......probably optimistic.....

i'll check out that last vst suggestd as well, sounds interesting....
