yo, i was just wondering about people’s workflows, i’ve heard in quite a lot of beats from ppl that use the 404og that in the pause in the beat you can hear the vinylsim hiss and the high pitch ring you get with it. However i’ve noticed that when i’ve applied to effect to a beat i’ve made on the sp or whatever there is no hiss in the gaps and there is only ever hiss when the effect is on the external source. Just makes me curious about like i said people’s workflows and shit, like do they make it on something external and record it in w the effect on? i’ve heard it in a lot of aaronmaxwell beats and i’m just curious

here’s an example: at 00:20 https://youtu.be/qizkRqc5z3Q

not tryna copy anyone’s technique or anything, would just be cool to learn how

cheers

It’s the compressor bringing up the level of the hiss/noise floor when the other parts drop out.

So try adding a compressor mfx over everything or a compressor on the output of the sp.

vinyl sim on the OG is a compressor, so just turn up ctrl 1 all the way and see if you can hear it bring up the noise floor

sorry i’m really bad at wording shit lol, i know that the vinylsim on the og is a compressor but no matter what level i have the compression whenever there is a gap i can never really hear it. apart from the slight hiss and ring the og has without any effects anyway. i appreciate you guys responding so quickly i think imma go experiment more

peace

If all your samples are super clean then there may be little noise

Apply it to a beat that's completed and has gaps recorded as part of the track. The "air" will have the effect added to it. The sequencer has no "air" as an element for the effect to be applied to... unless you record that ext. source pad with the comp on and use it as a pad to simulate the hiss. :) i think? lol

correct, the "air" that you're referring to is the noise floor which is a product of A/D or D/A conversion
