SP-BRO (external resampling / recorder device)

Post by Rabot »

hey everyone, it's been a while.

so while I was not making music, i've been doing alot of programming, hardware, and software, and I recently bought a teensy-audio board and have been toying with it.

then I've asked myself how could I actually make something usefull out of it, and figured out that I wanted to make a small device for my all my SP-struggler that would make thier wish (kinda) come thru.

external resampling on every SP (along with other feature too...)

so yeah the idea is that this small device could attach to your 404 in and out (and other sp using cables) and would have it's own in and out too.

it would always pass through the SP sound, but could also sample it, while sampling another sound source. it could also be used as a sketch pad too.

anyway, I'mjust trying to see if anyone would be interested in such a device?

LONG STORY SHORT::

I'M BUILDING A SMALL AUDIO DEVICE FOR THE 404 (AND OTHER MACHINE USING CABLES)
IT CAN SAMPLE YOUR SP AND A EXTERNAL SOURCE.
YOU PLAY IT BACK AND SAMPLE THAT IN YOUR MACHINE.
IT WILL HAVE A LONG RECORD TIME
IT COULD ALSO PAN YOU SAMPLES

I COULD ADD MORE FEATURES TOO.
BUILT IN REVERB (LOL) AND OTHER CRAP
IT COULD ALSO DO OTHER STUFF BUT IT WOULD END UP BEING MONO. BUT THEN YOU CAN PAN THOSE SAMPLES LOL.
DO YOU WANT SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

My current SP-Bros are my Tascam DR-1 (like a zoom) and my Tascam portastudio do both those things, only it's a broken volume button on the dr1 so I can't raise the volume above 2 otherwise My first choice of replacement would be a newer-model tascam,

but if your device is at the right price I'd def. be interested - the sp-808 v.1.0 has really limited sampling time compared to other sp's and I'm sick of fighting with broken gear.

Something like this could be super-mega-dope. SP-BRO is a great name too.

How big would it be and would it be possible to sturdily mount to the main body?

Cause it's an add-on, right?

Or did I high something wrong cause I'm reading? ;)

Thank for the reply guys!

I'll look into TruePitch, as for start and stop it could be possible. I'll try to work on it more this weekend and show you something in action.

I kind of want to make it so it just gets in your 404's in and out and give you new in and out. Of yourse if you have a 808 and it doesn't fit, you just use cable.

The first proto's case are gonna be 3d printing.

I don't want to make HUGE batches of them but I know a few people around might be interested.

we all know the 4 voice poly struggle AND the no EXT RESAMPLE strug as well..

ANYWAY BACK TO WORK!

alright so I got to work on it this weekend.

actually just putted everything on a breadboard and started protyping until I figures out a problem, my microSD card wasn't working to well.

so yeah, that thing is gonna store stuff on a microSD, so the space isn't going to be an issue.

I'm also considering adding multiple sample saveing, not just the last performance.

Right now developpement is slow cause I got a big project due on december 7th but after that i'm going to try to have a good prototype working and make a video of it!

Ahhh man. I'm pretty excited about the prospect of SP-BRO. I think something like this would be a better investment for me over a second 404 (which is definitely pretty dayum alluring...).

If this is something you end up nailing down 100%... I'd be more than inclined to help out on something like Kickstarter if you decided to go that route. Just sayin!

I have a few idea about how I'm going to release this thing but I don't have the ressources to go into full scale production.

might do something like the shruthi-1 AKA; selling PCB + chips for the DIYers out there and selling a few assembled one.

heck the best would be to get in touch with the guy that does the teensy + the audio board and try to have him make a all in one PCB. that would be the best solution.

anyway... let's not talk about this until it's done.
