It's still nice to have a screen if you wish to edit a sample to a fine level, remove dc offset etc.

and remove that little click at the end of a sample..

but you can still do it with no screen. my contention is that screens are distracting and remove me from the creative process. instigates a disconnect. whatever works for you though.

yeah i feel you on working without a screen, i only have a 404 myself. put i think it would be great to just make a very fast volume fade down at the end of a sample and i guess that would e easier with a screen.. newer tried doing that on a 606...

I am seeing both of these used at under $400. The 606 tends to be a bit cheaper than the 555 used.

So at a roughly similar price point which would you choose?

i think another consideration it has to be made (if no one has done this yet in this mastodontic thread).
if you search a machine more for live, maybe the 555 is more for that;for a studio aim, the 606 is maybe better.
why i use the word "maybe" here?
because everyone has its own taste and workflow too.
personally i recently used my 606 for a live and the possibility of using 2fx simultaneously+dbeam was amazing; on the other side i missed the fact to have all the fx just in face of ou (like the 555,404 or 303 do)...
so?
so i integrated other things for that live...

rehashing this old thread as i'm in a bit of a quandary myself. currently rocking just a og 404 and want to cop a 555 or 606. i really want the built-in audio interface. tried a 606 before for a few weeks but wasn't crazy about using a screen. would be willing to give it another go though... 555: love the smaller footprint, rubber function buttons and no screen, but the one i'm looking at is almost $400 with tax/shipping. i know that's still relatively cheap but the 606 is basically $200. so the 606 is about half the price and has way more banks, but for everything else i'm liking the 555. this will be used alone, not with the 404. should i have another go at the 606 or pay twice as much and try 555? i've read every 606 VS 555 thread on the internet... am i really gonna drop $400 just because i want audio interface integration? sorry, these debates are getting tired i know

Dude, 606 has audio interface as well. That might make the choice a little cheaper for you.
