Hiya folks!

Just ordered an sp404 last week, going to get it any day now. Have just been reading through the manual and everything looks straight forward enough, just going to wait until I have it to do some hands on learning.

I just wanted to get some input on my situation. I've been making beats on fl studio with help of a key rig 49 up till now and mainly work with sampling. I do alot of chopping but layering is really important to me. I want to be able to reproduce stuff like this:

https://soundcloud.com/theanjovi/in-the ... tch-anjovi

I want to eventually be able to perform stuff like this live (build a beat up then rap on it). For now i'm mainly planning on reproducing all my little producing quirks on the new machine.

For example: in flstudio I use the plug in -wave traveller- to do all of my chopping. It's funny that the 2 knobs for adjusting chops in the machine is very similar. (ignore the red squiggly lines and orange dots but look at the wave on the top left with the 2 knobs)

setup:
-laptop+flstudio+KeyRig49 (for my bass/synth lines)
-sp 404sx (for sampling,drums,sequencing,live dj effects,etc.)

and....I sort of lost track as to were I was going with this. I suppose just getting some input on what features on the sp that i should be particularly interested in or just folks to talk about this fine machine with.

mant thanks!

I would say that since you're using FL in your process and you're familiar with it you should try out sequencing the 404 with it, it has a better sequencer by far. Then just dump the beats in layers onto your 404 for the live performances

that'd be interesting, never really messed around with a record function in fl. Although when trying to record from my midi controller (controlling vsts) the buffering rate makes it more trouble then it's worth.

I'm curious as to how this will work out, I figured if nothing else I'd be able to use it for live performances. As well as just having fun with making beats on it like an instrument.

Ok so I got my paws on it now and have just been spending a good deal getting my input and output going right.

1st i tried:

-Computer>Preamp>speakers
>sp404 (out to sp back into pre amp)

What happened here is the sound got muddied up from trying to input and output at the same time...hehe...so...

i tried this 2nd:

-Computer>Sp404>speakers, Computer>Pre amp (recording to cooledit)

----------------------------------------

So far questions I'm coming up with are:

-how to edit a pattern: after I record a pattern and it's assigned are you able to go back into that pattern and edit it? record and delete stuff?

-don't know why I can't use the fx while in the pattern sequencer. I've seen others do it like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQIKvVJM_Fk

-how to play patterns simultaneously.

-(probably related to last question) In this video at the 1:00 mark he doesn't seem to be on the pattern sequencer but he's still recording loops...is that right and how do you do that? lol

video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UTVn4dE ... 8e4hR3Rv4A

that's pretty much it, the fx is probably straight forward enough. although i'll probably find my answer easily enough on youtube or something.
