so my logic is sort of backwards sometimes, but
I came up with this idea, i'm shure others have to.

It is to have your sp going into your computer, now say
you have some drums programmed into the sequencer and
you want to play your keyboard chords or melody on top. uh oh.
if you try to sample it in, it will be all of time, because you can't
run the sequencer, no problem just record your drums into the
computer for a bit, then play it back, now you can record your
instrument into the sp while in time with your drums. now
you can layer your sample into the sequencer with the drums.
and get rid of the drum track on the computer if you want.

so, what I was doing before was dislexic, I would record the drums and
instrument into the computer then sample back into the sp, with tons of
line noise and bad conversion noise and hiss, now it's straight awsome.

i guess ..

i do the main beat on the SP404sx -using sequencer .. (drums + chord or whatever)

record in portastudio .. then bounce back into the 404

resample shit over the top then loop it nd resample the beat for duration of a song ..

depends what gear you've got

---

if you do beats using resample method then play it into the sequencer as a layer (providing you keep the tempo settings accurate to your beat

all you need is to sample piano/synth parts and play them over the top in the sequencer

--

long winded i know. .. hopefully it made a bit of sense

i think perhaps you have missed the meaning of my discovery,
I try an avoid making the resample beats, they are cool to
make and stuff, but I find it rather destructive as, I would
like everything seperated and quanitized in
the sequencer.

it's mostly for recording live instrument loops into the SP ONCE !
so they will match up with your drums. just the way you want. I
heard ella always talking about external metra nome, maybe he
does this.

heres the audio chain.

guitar > sp > computer.

record drum sequence temporarily to computer.

now sample the guitar loop into the sampler once.
so you can stack it in the sequencer.

If you want to keep all elements separated, I'd suggest using a proper sequence like an mpc or a daw like ableton live. For me, I like using my 303 because I don't want to be bothered with that aspect and just create via resampling and layering. I like the rawness. I enjoy doing everything by ear.

Just create man and don't worry too much. With time, you'll just improve anyways.

I think the sp's sequencers are propper for what i'm trying to do.
I don't mean to sound like a jerk but this thread isnt about resampling
or what is a better method. but i'm not hitler so talk about whatever you
want, i see so many people defend resamplel loose time lets here some
creative music with quanitize, Sometime's ill just slap some stuff together and then delete all the evidence, but the style i'm trying to represent requires
4 or more parts for drops mutes and fills.

this technique works especially good for the 606 with a memory card, because you can do a few runs to 1 pad then pick the best one.
I think the 606 works perfect for seperating all elements and sequencing them, that's why it has 4 tracks, you can pretty much make a whole song with 1 - 2bar patter just revealing and muting all the 4 tracks.

I'm an old school cat who needs that solid beat to inspire rhymes
and musical ideas. got no beef with resample cats, I just cant work
like that, I want to get the most out of my songs, and I'm able to keep
coming back and working on my shit, and re doing my riffs and tweaking
the drum patterns. and stacking more stuff on.

If you're using it in computer, why not play sequence and use EXT at same time?

im not going to multi track on a computer because of latency, this tactic works, i just feel i didn't explain it enough for people to understand

resample + ext could also work if you have a drum loop on a pad, then you turn it down a whole bunch, then you play guitar over it, and match it back onto your sequencer, but doesnt help, unless its an audio loop not sequence.
