.. get overlooked on SP-Forums .. people always reference all the previous models but rarely sp555 when a debate comes?

is it the price issue? (hence not many headz purchased) .. or do people forget about it?

clearly the upgrade to the 404 but with similar features to 303 (loop capture similar to the 303's resample mode)

The triple five soul is less than the 404sx so I doubt price is the inhibitor. I believe it would be a little over kill for most sp users, plus the thing is not as easy as a 404 or 303 to carry around. I also prefer sample and pattern copy functions to a pattern loop capture/resample thingy...it seems very after thoughtish, that coupled with the original outlandish price. I bet Roland staff have great ideas, it just seems like someone is asleep at the wheel over there/

i had one for about three weeks but i liked the 404 so much more i just flipped it, its a cool sampler but i feel like i can do everything on the 404 easier and it has a fuller sound

so pattern copy and paste is different to how the 404 works?.

Never mind, I just looked at the 555 manual and it's the same. I guess I never fully read about all the features.....so you might be right about people sleeping on it. The d-beam with synth and the v-link are outstanding features.

it always seemed to be like a 404 on steroids.

Ive been on the triple 5ives
fir quite awhile now and i digg it
its kinda like a bulk compared to
the 404 to carry around but almost
as big as a laptop the best thing i
like about it is the number of pads
enuf to be played around for live
drumming but after awhile the pads
get beat up.lol but i just copped an og
404 and an mpd26 as a trgger pad to
incorporate it live :)

Yes

i've had 404sx, 505, 555, and the 555 is my immediate go to.
The sound quality is the same as 404 (but not as clean as 404sx)

pros: Loop capture, velocity, more pads, more effects, d-beam filter etc.

The inflated price is the killer...its the same (opposite) reason imo that the microkorg gets SO much love here, its cheap as crap and functional , but compare it to more high end VAs and it is is just 'ok'.

I do like my 404sx alot but after coming from 555 the things it lacks (loop capture and velocity mainly) makes it a little less attractive.

could you explain what this "loop capture" function is and how it works?

I think the resampling pattern to pad is a godsend, alongside the velocity though I hear it isn't that great - can't confirm until I test it.

Loop Capture is Roland's way of turning the SP into a loop pedal. Basically, it loops a sample and you can layer more stuff on top by sampling more stuff in real-time.

ahh cool. So you know how some loop pedals let you take off the layers you already added on in real time? Can the 555 do that? And how many layers can you toggle on and off? if that makes any sense

The triple 5 is my favorite Sp because of all the pros mentioned above and I love the loop capture.I can make beats using the pattern sequencer then sampling the sequences with loop capture and use resampling to build a song.
I've got to say that the 404/og or Sx is more convenient because of the compact build and use of batteries.
