state what you think the best sp you think is for resampling, which ones you've tried, and why.

i'm gonna go with sp-606 and 404. i've had 303, 505, 404, 606.

606:
mute groups: makes it much easier to deal with 2 stereo 4 mono
pan: make your stuff more stereo
resample input: throw in some scratches

404: djfx.

I think it depends kinda on the artifacts you might get, whether desirable or unwanted. Resampling isn't perfect recreation of the original sample, it's like bouncing tape tracks forever and half. I've noticed on the 404SX, I get mad bit crushing on low volumes after resampling several times. I used to not like it, now I just say 'well, that's the signature sound of this machine'. I seem to recall Heat Vision noticed that the OG and SX have very noticeable difference in sound characterstics overall, my guess due to SX possible hardware upgrade(s).

I don't remember the bit crushed low volume stuff happening on the OG. I can't remember exactly how the 505 sounded after massive resampling, though. However, I was abusing the crap out of lo-fi sampling because I didn't have a CF card! :)

i have the 404sx and i dont really like the resampling function or technique
mainly cause you cant record from external sources while resampling and the polyphony issue. The only exception is whenever i want to add an effect over a particular sample or anything of that kind

All I do Is resample on the SX, even to add automations to a small part of a whole 1:30 second track multiple times with different effects.
I want more of these machines though to try some different ideas. Im very content ith the SX though. Lots of nice features on that.

ive had a 303 for 2 years and loved it but just needed more room for storage so i copped a 555( which doesnt seem to get any love on these forums) and i really like the two together.

the 555 is amazing for resampling because of the loop capture feature. if theres a song thats 5 minutes with 2 minutes of samples i want to use, ill sample 6 20 second segments. then, using loop capture, ill apply effects and grab it as a short( 12 seconds at the longest?) loop, save to pad, delete the loop, then add more effects, loop capture, save to pad, delete the loop and then repeat. the delete time on the loop capture is instant and doesnt interfere with any samples being played while deleting.

that being said, i usually use the 303 for the long/lo fi for drums and steady elements through a beat, and my signal chain is always 303 last, cause its just the illest.

ya 303 sounds amazing, i have a hard time working with 32 pads though. mine broke and i managed to get 50 dollars for it after explaining the rca outs didn't work. so i don't have one. but i even had trouble with 48 pads on a mpc 500 when i had that, and that had 16 levels (saves pads.)
