sup all

i've been obsessing over SP-404 videos on youtube for the past month and finally decided i really, Really, REALLY want to get one. the thing is tho, i already have a NI Maschine

if i buy an SP-404 is it overkill?
can they work together or do they basically do the same thing?
i dj also, so could i maybe hook the 404 up to my dj mixer for 'live' FX?

any advice appreciated

regarding using the 404 for effects in a dj set up. yes you can definitely utilize that in a legit way. i usually just plug my mixers output into the 404 and then into my speakers

thanks for quick reply! thats awesome to know as i'd definitely do that also.

i'd still most importantly like to know if the beatmaking aspect of the 404 & Maschine are basically the same thing (in a sense)...

i already have maschine and just ordered a sp-404sx... i dont think its overkill... you got the sp for portability, great real time effect manipulation and i think a single piece of just hardware is more fun to use.
correct me if i'm wrong but i'm guessing u can hook up the sp to maschine via midi and track a pattern with an effect on it into maschine, then turn the effect off what you just tracked on the sp, which will enable you to use an effect on another pattern as you can only use 1 effect.
also stereo polyphony is very limited so once you've recorded into maschine, just delete off the sp.

should be in my hands by tuesday... can't wait :D

I own both and I have to say, they're two different animals.

I love all the built in sounds/etc. w/Maschine and the software capabilities.

I love the immediacy and portability of the 404sx. Both are very intuitive and complement anyone's studio set up.

The 404sx is also great for training your ears, also, where in Maschine can be quite visual (or not, if you prefer).

I like the effects on the 404sx for their ability to make simple sound's so interesting and lo-fi, yet still produce a quality sound.

I use my SP 303/404 with my MPC. Same kinda setup. Use 303/404 to get the sounds, MPC to sequence them. Do the same thing + maschine vst and all that = win!
